Il est à préciser que, malgré ce que peuvent penser les gens, le Sirtaki n'est pas une danse traditionnelle mais Mikis Theodorakis a fait un mélange de danses traditionnelles grecques : le Rebetiko, le Zeibekiko, le Hasapiko et le Serviko.
